Ontario singles 5-pin champion on a roll

Chantal Papineau is rounding into mid-season form in the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League.

The two-time defending Ontario ladies singles champion is currently leading the ladies high average category. That gap will continue to grow as she connected for the best individual performanc­e of the evening, rolling 852 (233, 290, 329) to pace the Ontario Street Boston Pizza Brutes to a 3-0 sweep of the Reggie’s Renovation­s Inc. Hammerhead­s.

Jordan Gravelle helped her in the win with a solid 751 (225, 318, 208). Teammate Jeff Stevens was right behind with 750 (262, 249, 239).

Leading the Hammerhead­s was Rob Fisher’s 712 (251, 234, 227), while P.J. Cole followed closely with 681.

In their win, the Brutes rolled the league’s highest team single (1,106) of the season. They were only five off the mark for the league-high team triple.

In other matches, the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints whitewashe­d the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers 3-0.

Shawn Pellizari had the hot hand for the winners tossing a super 764 (243, 238, 283). Brian McFarlane was close behind with 747 (218, 263, 266) while Kayla Ferguson rounded things out with 705 (300, 225).

The Town Criers answered with Kile Robins’ 680 (238, 236).

The Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic edged the Lakeside Electrical Lightning 2-1 — by only 29 pins — in the closest match of the evening.

Matt Vendeittel­li’s 676 (252, 263) paced the Magic.

The Lightning replied with Melina Driver’s 683 (236, 243) and Tyler Wendel’s 675 (231, 269).

In the evening’s final game, the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks took two of three from the Wine Place Whiners.

The Canucks were sparked by Shaun Feere’s 778 (275, 309), while Adam Eckhardt chipped in with 674 (238, 253).

The Whiners fought back with John Wendel’s 666 (230, 241). Sarah Stevens added 653 (207, 267).
