Who would support creation of four mini regions?

RE: FOUR-CITY NIAGARA REPORT PANNED, JULY 17

It’s pretty obvious that the few incumbent Niagara politicians who supported the Alan Caslin caucus, and who still managed to get re-elected, ignored the mood of the Niagara electorate during last year’s municipal elections and wish to keep governing the Region just as before.

No transparency, no accountability and all the most important decisions on wasting the taxpayer’s money still being taken in secret and behind closed doors with those taking part being gagged from talking to those who elected them.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati claimed to support a four-city Niagara, yet had not even read the report.

He also said the report is based on a “grassroots group,” with the report claiming a clear majority of Niagara residents support the idea of eliminating the regional government and amalgamating the 12 lower-tier municipalities into four cities.

I think he owes “a clear majority of Niagara residents” either proof or an apology.

During the campaign many voters I spoke to were totally for the idea of eliminating regional government, including the ever growing bureaucracy greedy for our tax dollars.

Not a single one proposed or supported any concept of a four-city Niagara.

Regional government has been proven to be bad enough.

Who could ever support four separate and bloated mini regional governments? Andrew Watts Wainfleet
