Tour company offers pairing of wine and cannabis

- BETH AUDET

For Ismail Mohammed, there’s no better pairing than wine and cannabis.

The Niagara Falls man had already been running Two Lakes Tours, a touring and transportation company, since 2014, and he recently decided to capitalize on the nationwide legalization of cannabis.

Niagara Weed & Wine Tours offers door-to-door pickup and drop-off service, taking guests on a customized experience. No two tours are exactly alike.

Whether guests are partial to cannabis, wine or both, Mohammed said, the tour can be catered to each request. And so far, the response has been phenomenal.

“It’s like a celebrity van right now,” he quipped. “Everybody wants to take a picture with us.”

Typically, the luxury van will stop off at a cannabis dispensary in Niagara Falls for some shopping, before heading to scenic areas such as the Floral Clock, Queenston Heights Park, the Fort George Scenic Lookout and Queen’s Royal Park.

Then, it’s off to some of Niagaraon-the-Lake’s finest wineries: Ice House, Peller Estates and Trius.

If a group feels like going out for lunch or visiting a brewery while they’re in NOTL, it’s no problem at all, he said.

To be clear, any guest who has opted to purchase cannabis is permitted to partake only where it would be legal to do so. Mohammed said no laws are being broken.

Although it’s a new concept and a new idea for this area, he said, this kind of tour is already happening out west.

The tour has been such a hit that he said his only real concern is how quickly other companies will adopt a similar experience.

Tickets are $85 a person for a tour of up to seven people, or $200 for a two-person private tour. Tours last roughly five hours.
