NRP neutrality during NOTL protests laudable

RE: NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE’S LORD MAYOR SPEAKS OUT ON PROTESTS IN OLD TOWN, JULY 23

It is with great curiosity that I watch many in Niagara-on-the-Lake cry foul that the Niagara Regional Police Service are actually doing what police should; being neutral peace keepers.

As of late the NRPS, and police services across Canada have received lots of bad press … how is this not a good news story for them?

In a time when police departments around the globe are rocked by scandals, abuse of power, trampling on people’s rights, wrongful arrests, discrimination, corruption etc., how can we not acknowledge the spot-on job they are doing dealing with the NOTL situation?

There are many people around the globe who no doubt scoff at the idea that fair policing even exists and here we have a perfect example of it happening.

Animal liberation activists, and other dissenters are regularly treated with disdain and often contempt by the powers that be, but to witness the truly awe-inspiring neutrality and fairness shown by NRPS District 2 members I feel is truly something to be recognized or even celebrated.

The conduct of these officers should be recognized for exactly what it is: a perfect example of ethical, just and proper conduct by police. Instead of just bashing and pointing out poor conduct, why not celebrate the good?

The conduct of the members of District 2 makes me extremely proud to be a citizen of the Niagara region, a place where the police proactively stand up for and defend the rights of citizens.
