Woman, 33, dies of injuries from hit and run in NOTL

A 33-year-old woman who was struck by a pickup truck that fled from the scene in Niagara-onthe-Lake over the weekend has died in hospital of her injuries, says the Niagara Regional Police.

At around 10:50 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders were called to Concession 7 Road and Line 6 Road for a report of a person struck by a vehicle. Officers found a woman with critical injuries.

The investigat­ion has determined the woman had been on foot at the side of the southbound lane of Concession 7 Road. She was struck by a southbound dark-coloured pickup truck. The truck did not stop and was last seen driving southbound away from the scene.

The victim was transporte­d to an out-of-region hospital in critical condition. Police said that on Monday she died in hospital due to her injuries.

The pickup truck is believed to be a dark-coloured Dodge Ram pickup truck 2010-2020. It will be missing the passenger side, side view mirror housing.

Detectives are appealing to members of the public and collision repair businesses in the area to be aware of the damage and to report any vehicle that may match the descriptio­n.

Residents and businesses in the area of the collision with closed circuit cameras are asked to review their footage for the pickup truck before and after the collision. Specifical­ly, police are looking for footage taken in the area of Niagara Stone Road between Concession 7 Road and the Old Town Area between 10:2011:30 p.m. on Aug. 17; as well as on Queenston Road and York Road east and west of Concession 7 Road, from10:50-11:20P p.m.

This is not the only vehicleped­estrian collision that occurred in Niagara-on-the-Lake over the weekend. At around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, a 76-year-old man was struck by a vehicle in the area of Mississaug­a and Centre streets.

He was airlifted to an out-oftown hospital with what were believed to be critical injuries.

On Monday, police said the man was in stable condition and is recovering in hospital. No charges are expected to be laid.
