Niagara artists to play — and get paid — for new online series
The doors may be closed at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC), but audiences can still get their fix with a new online series of shows.
Taking its cue from the National Arts Centre’s #CanadaPerforms series, PAC’s #NiagaraPerforms aims to give local artists a platform and — more importantly — a payday for playing.
“We want to continue to find ways that connect our local artists and arts organizations with audiences and the online space is definitely a place where we can all still meet,” says Sara Palmieri PAC’s programming and marketing manager.
Michael Chess, marketing supervisor, adds artists will be paid “negotiated rates based on their regular fees.
“The fees are very reasonable and generous based on the going rates for what a regular live one-hour set would be. We’re doing what we can to continue supporting our local artists and trying not to deviate from our core belief that artists should be compensated for their work.”
Local producer and musician Mark Lalama will perform from his home to kick off the series Sunday at 4 p.m. He’ll play on what would have been the final show of PAC’s Hear! Here! Niagara Music Series for the season.
The next three shows will be: April 23, 7 p.m. — Gordon Cleland, principal cellist for the Niagara Symphony Orchestra.
April 26, 4 p.m. — Niagara singers Laurel Minnes and Taylor Hulley
April 30, 7 p.m. — Sketch comedy by members of Suitcase in Point.
Shows will continue every Sunday and Thursday and can viewed through the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre’s Facebook and YouTube channels. John.Law@niagaradailies.com 905-225-1644 | @JohnLawMedia
