Dealer overdosed on drug concealed in his body

-

A man who tried to hide cocaine from police by concealing it inside his body was rushed to hospital for treatment of what doctors say was a drug overdose, court heard Friday.

Daniel Davyes appeared in an Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines via a video conference from the Niagara Detention Centre and pleaded guilty to several offences including drug-related charges.

He was sentenced to time served, having served the equivalent of 375 days in pretrial custody, and placed on probation for three years.

The charges stem from incidents which occurred in Niagara Falls in 2019.

In one case, he was stopped on Thorold Stone Road following an investigation by police into suspected drug trafficking.

When he was arrested, police seized 11.7 grams of cocaine as well as Oxycodone and a folding knife.

Police noticed a “bulge” on his body and Davyes was taken to a police station where he underwent a strip search and investigators noticed a white powdery substance near his anus.

He was transported to a local hospital and doctors removed “a foreign body” from his rectum and treated him for a drug overdose.

Four months after that arrest, court was told, he once again came to the attention of law enforcement.

This time, he was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on Drummond Road. He was carrying almost six grams of cocaine at the time, as well as 1.1 grams of suspected fentanyl and a wad of cash.

He was arrested for a third drug offence in December after police noticed a vehicle had an expired validation permit. The permit had expired less than 24 hours before. Police searched the vehicle and seized 2.8 grams of cocaine, digital scales and a cellphone.
