Brock virtual event to explore climate change through theatre, panel
Artists will explore climate change for a weekend of livestreamed theatre and activism at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in November.
Being held Nov. 13 to 15, the event will include five commissioned performances, a livestreamed performance of Broadleaf Theatre’s awardwinning “The Chemical Valley Project” and a panel discussion.
It’s all part of the Walker Cultural Leaders Series and is convened by professors David Fancy and Karen Fricker of Brock University’s department of dramatic arts.
PAC programming supervisor Annie Wilson says climate change “is going to require our collective creativity to rise to its challenges.”
“We appreciate the chance to work alongside Brock’s dramatic arts department to build this opportunity to reflect as a community on this most important issue.”
The short online presentations were commissioned by Brock to explore climate change in relation to the artists’ interests. Themes explored will include feminism, COVID-19, consumerism and healing. Three of them will be screened Nov. 13 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the PAC, followed by “The Chemical Valley Project” at 7 p.m.
A second livestream performance of “The Chemical Valley Project” will be Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
On Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. will be the discussion panel Land, Water, Activism, Performance, moderated by Fricker and featuring Kevin Matthew Wong of Broadleaf Theatre, Brock professor David Fancy and Kaha: wi Dance Theatre artistic director Santee Smith.
Later that day, the final two commissioned works will be presented from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
All events will be livestreamed on the PAC and MIWSFPA Facebook pages, along with PAC’s YouTube page.
