‘So Happy It Hurts’ to be back in town

Bryan Adams is bringing his six-string to St. Catharines this fall.

In support of his 15th studio album, the platinum-selling musician is making a stop at Meridian Centre on Friday, Oct. 14, as part of his “So Happy It Hurts” tour.

Following the release of the album in March, the 62-yearold rocker is heading to 25 Canadian cities, including Halifax, Toronto, Kitchener and Vancouver.

Adams is making his first return to Meridian Centre since February 2019 with his “Greatest Hits” tour. Centre spokesperson Kay Meilleur called that sold-out show “probably one of the most amazing concerts we had seen in the venue.” The tour announcement comes after a series of concert cancellations by Adams in the past two years, including the entirety of a summer North American tour with Bon Jovi, due to COVID-19 and restriction concerns.

For Meridian Centre, Adams is its first “really big” announcement since the pandemic started. Many of the centre’s other events, such as Jann Arden’s concert on May 27, were on the books but saw dates moved around in response to COVID-19.

“We’ve been working on this Bryan Adams announcement for several months and keeping it under our hat, so it’s been a journey to get here,” said Meilleur. “It’s great for us to finally see announcements happening and it’s starting to feel like things are a little more normal.”

Earning 20 Juno awards, a Grammy award and three Academy Award nominations, the native of Kingston, Ont., released his debut album in 1980.

In 1991, Adams released “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” one of the bestselling singles of all time, having sold more than 15 million copies worldwide and was No. 1 in at least 19 countries.

Adams was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame this year.

In a press release for “So Happy It Hurts,” Adams described the album as touching on “many of the ephemeral things in life that are really the secret to happiness and, most importantly, human connection.” Adams began touring “So Happy It Hurts” in Europe and the United Kingdom in January, following the release of the album’s title track last October.

Tickets for the St. Catharines show go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, at ticketmaster.ca and livenation.com, with prices ranging from $55 to $115.

Presale is available May 26 for subscribers to Meridian’s Be In The Know newsletter.
