Malt plant vandalized; jewelry stolen from home

On Sunday, an estimated $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen when suspects broke into a Village Crescent home sometime between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Entry was gained by prying open a window, police stated.

Damage is also estimated at $2,400 after the United Canadian Malt Company on Park St. S. was broken into sometime on Sept. 5, city police stated. Once inside, unknown suspects proceeded to damage items, police report.

Some $1,000 in cash was also stolen from an unlocked apartment on Alymer St. sometime between Sept. 5 and 6, city police said.

About $25 worth of chips and pop were stolen by a pair of thieves who entered Peterborou­gh Square through a damaged door about 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 3, city police report.

The male and female left the mall after the theft, police stated.

WITNESSES STOP ASSAULT

A 19-year-old faces charges after witnesses stopped an assault that began when two men argued over a dog last Tuesday, police stated.

The accused allegedly punched and kicked the victim repeatedly until witnesses intervened, at which time he fled before officers arrived, police stated.

A suspect was then arrested Friday.

Trevin Rodda, who police stated was placed on probation on July 16 for theft and failing to comply with probation, was further charged with assault and failing to comply with probation and released for an Oct. 1 court appearance.

TWO HURT IN CRASH

A driver and a passenger were taken to Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre for treatment of injuries after being freed from the wreckage of their vehicle by Cavan Monaghan Township firefighte­rs after crashing just after 10 p.m. Monday on the Tapley 1/4 Line, near Highway 115, after a highspeed chase.

ATV ROLLOVER

A man was taken to Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre for treatment of injuries after an ATV rollover Monday afternoon just west of the city.

Peterborou­gh County OPP, Cavan Monaghan Township firefighte­rs and paramedics were called at 4:35 p.m. to Highway 7 between Brown Line and Clifford Line after the ATV rolled during a test drive by an employee at Cycle Salvage.

Meanwhile city police, firefighte­rs and paramedics were called to a three-vehicle collision at Lansdowne Street West and George Street around 5:06 p.m. Monday, but there were no injuries and traffic was backed up at the busy intersecti­on.
