$8K grant for New Horizons Bands

The Peterborou­gh New Horizons Bands received an $8,000 provincial grant for the second straight year.

The Seniors Community Grant will be used to enhance and expand musical opportunit­ies for seniors in the Peterborou­gh area.

More than 225 seniors will benefit from this grant through participat­ion in various New Horizons bands and ensembles, as well as local residents who attend the bands’ community concerts.

CHARGES IN CRASH

A single-vehicle collision on Trent River Rd. in Asphodel-Norwood Road shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday resulted in charges against a 40-year-old Mississaug­a man.

An eastbound Dodge Caravan lost control, crossed the road and rolled several times, snapping a hydro pole in the process, Peterborou­gh County OPP stated.

A 24-year-old male passenger was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a Kingston-area hospital with serious injuries.

A suspect was arrested a short distance from the rollover.

The road was closed for several hours as OPP collision reconstruc­tionists investigat­ed. The circumstan­ces surroundin­g the crash are still being probed.

BEAGLES STOLEN

Two beagle-cross hunting dogs, including a male and female expecting pups in about five weeks, were stolen from a Second Line address in Asphodel-Norwood Township sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning, Peterborou­gh County OPP stated.

Officers were called to the address about 10:30 a.m. Friday.

NEIGHBOUR HARASSED

A 24-year-old North Kawartha Township man faces several charges after a resident of the township claimed her neighbour broke into her shed and continuall­y harassed her.

Officer attending to arrest the man for break, enter and theft at his Coon Lake address noticed a suspect driving a three-wheel ATV into a garage in an alleged attempt to elude police. A man was arrested after a brief struggle, OPP stated.

Stewart Charles Keech was charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000, driving while disqualifi­ed, fail to comply with undertakin­g and resisting arrest and held for a show cause hearing scheduled for Monday.

FORCIBLE CONFINEMEN­T

A city man faces several charges after police were called to a domestic dispute on Saturday.

The accused pulled the victim’s hair and pinned her down on a bed before she freed herself, fled and contacted police.

The male and female had been in a relationsh­ip for three years, police stated.

He was charged with assault, forcible confinemen­t and mischief under $5,000 and held for a court appearance.

Names were not released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

REDEDICATI­ON EVENT

BRIDGENORT­H – A rededicati­on ceremony is being held Monday morning to mark the restoratio­n of the heritage plaque at Champlain Park in Bridgenort­h in celebratio­n and commemorat­ion of the 400th anniversar­y of Samuel de Champlain’s portage through Peterborou­gh County.

Selwyn Township is hosting the ceremony at 11 a.m. at Champlain Park on Champlain Road in Bridgenort­h.
