What started out as a neighbourhood garage sale has turned into a community event for residents near Bonnerworth Park.

“When I shared the idea of having a garage sale with my neighbours, a lot of people were interested so we decided to make it a whole neighbourhood garage sale,” said Bonaccord St. resident Wendy Fischer.

The idea grew even further, drawing in community organizations, a skateboard competition and busking musicians.

Originally set for Sept. 12, rain cancelled the event, moving it to Saturday.

More than 50 neighbouring residents are joining in to sell their goods, with activities also taking place in nearby areas.

There’s a Frisbee golf demo at the future Frisbee golf course in Hamilton Park from 10 a.m. to noon and Greenup is hosting a bike playground in Fleming College’s former McRae Campus on Bonaccord St. from 9 a.m. to noon.

A fall work party is happening in the Bonaccord Community Garden and there’s a Thin City Skateboard competition at the Bonnerworth Park skate park.

The fifth annual Shredfest Skateboard Competition includes product tosses, best tricks competitions and a giant game of skate. It runs from noon to 4 p.m., with sign up at 11:30 a.m.

The street sale runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the event welcoming all city residents who don’t have land to host their own yard sale to join in. Apartment renters can set up in Hamilton Park or park alongside the part and have a trunk sale.

If it rains Saturday, the event will move to Sept. 26.
