Re: Rally speakers pat on( July 23,2016) A casual reader of this story would probably not know that the Black Lives Matter rally was peaceful and uneventful, given the reporter’ s focus on an isolated issue that followed the rally, rather than the event itself, an error in judgement that was compounded by your choice of headline.

While sensationa­lism no doubt sells more copies in a troubled market for print media, it does no service to a community that is entitled to see social reality reflected accurately.

Good reporting of local events require diligences as well as a sense of the wider ramificati­ons of how informatio­n is selected and used. Visible minorities in Peter borough deserve as much from their local newspaper. Peter Laurie, Aberdeen Ave.
