Yard sale for Honduras
Grace United Church has major fundraiser planned for Sept. 10
It’s that time again! Grace United Church is holding their huge annual yard and plant sale Saturday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. until noon in support of their 11th Honduras mission trip in November. The trip is organized under the umbrella of the local group Friends of Honduran Children. All proceeds from the yard sale will go toward building projects.
“This year we will be building a school room in a village near the medical centre we helped construct last year. The present building is bursting at the seams with a projection of up to 40 new students in the next couple of years,” says Jane Bleecker, a member of the group. “We hope to also fix the existing washrooms and paint and repair the kindergarten room.”

“We are excited to be sending two brigades (to Honduras) this November; 31 brigadiers in total,” Bleecker adds.
The yard sale will include a huge assortmentofitemsincludingdishes, picture frames, books, toys, furniture, sports equipment, and more. There will also be a BBQ hosted by the Grace Scouting organization.
The sale also offers community members the opportunity to drop off, for free, any unwanted electronics and/or metal during the sale.
“With 31 brigadiers and all the church members we always have boat loads of items for this sale!” says Bleecker.

Dreams Golf
The Down Syndrome Association of Peterborough is hosting their Dreams Golf Tournament Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Quarry Golf and Country Club beginning at 1 p.m. The event is largely sponsored by Steve McNulty of M & C Hydraulics Inc.
The four person best ball tournament includes 18 holes of golf, use of a golf cart and dinner. A live and silent auction will take place throughout the dinner.
The cost to play in the tournament is $110 for agency members and $125 for non-members. Golfers should register before September 9 by calling the Down Syndrome Association office at 705-749-6695 or by email at info@downsyndromepeterborough.ca
Hole sponsors can be purchased for $100 each and any donations would be greatly appreciated as well.
The Down Syndrome of Peterborough is a not for profit charitable organization that supports families and individuals with Down Syndrome. Their mission is to support families in their quest to normalize and enrich the lives of their children in order that they will reach their full potential.
The agency offers programs and services to individuals and the community such as tutoring, life skills programs, parent support groups, respite care and summer school while offering informative resources to parents, caregivers, educators, and the medical profession.

LAWS Yard Sale
It’s the giant yard sale event that everyone looks forward to! The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) will once again hold their fundraising yard sale and BBQ over the Labour Day weekend, Friday and Saturday, beginning each day at 8 a.m.
Donated items would be appreciated and can be dropped off daily until Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. The donation drop off area is in front of the shed to the right of the front entrance. Volunteers are also needed to work Friday and Saturday and for clean up on Sunday.

Garden Workshop
TheEdibleLandscapingworkshop series continues Sunday, September 11 from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre, located at 2505 Pioneer Rd., with Designing your Outdoor Space. The purpose of these workshops is to establish edible gardens around the Centre while also teaching those participating how to achieve similar results in their own yards and communities. Money raised will go toward further workshops and gardens around the Centre.
This workshop with instructor Cathy Hooper will use permaculture techniquesanddiscusshowtodesign small and large properties using sun, wind and water to the best advantage and placing elements such as buildings, trees, gardens, animals, greenhouses and paths to achieve maximum efficiency and enjoyment from the designs.
The last workshop in the series will be Herb Gardens (April 23, 2017). Participants will be contacted if rain prevents a workshop. Rain dates will generally be the following Sunday.
