Fairhaven’s Summer Teen Volunteer Program wraps up this Wednesday. Through this program, 16 teen volunteers contributed a total of 1,058 hours this summer.

“What an amazing summer it has been at Fairhaven this year,” says Caitlyn Payne, the Fairhaven summer teen volunteer co-ordinator. “The staff and residents are sad to see them (the teen volunteers) leave.”

To wrap up the program and celebrate the teens and their contribution, an appreciation barbecue will be held tomorrow, complete with a barbecue lunch, prizes and awards.

“It is nice to see the teens being rewarded for all their hard work and dedication this summer,” says Payne.

Recently, the teens also enjoyed the traditional annual teen volunteers verses the residents and staff baseball game that took place on the front lawn of Fairhaven.

“The staff won 14 to 7. It was an afternoon of fun for all,” reports Payne.

Payne, on behalf of the Fairview Summer Teen Program, would like to thank the local businesses that donated to the program this year.

“A big thank you goes out to Zap Attack Laser Tag, McDonalds, Chapters, Peterborough Bowlerama, Yoyo’s Yogurt Cafe, Wild Water and Wheels and Milltown Mini Golf for their generous donations and support and making the Teen Appreciation event extra special,” she says.

Those attending the event will be able to purchase, and have signed, copies of Postcards from Peterborough and the Kawarthas for $30.

“Come out and investigate the special collections from across five counties that are housed at the Archives and the amazing genealogical resources that continue to improve,” states a press release.

At the regular meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., Crossen will then give a talk entitled ‘Autumn Constellations and Deep Sky Targets’. Crossen is the owner/ operator of the Buckhorn Observatory.

“His many years in the hobby will ensure an informative and entertaining look at what is coming up in the night sky this fall,” says Dunne.

Come out and check out the PAA and all it has to offer at no cost. This is an all ages meeting and the venue is barrier free.
