Free picnic on Labour Day at Nicholls Oval

The Peterborou­gh and District Labour Council is hosting a free picnic on Labour Day at Nicholls Oval from noon to 2 p.m. There’ll be hot dogs and hamburgers, live music, draw prizes, and a bouncy castle.

The Bridgenort­h resident is swimming the entire Trent-Severn to raise money for the Lauren Taylor Fund, a pledge to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in her late daughter's name. Lauren died at the children's hospital from severe birth injuries two days after she was born on May 15, 1998. Wilson planned to swim from Port Severn to Trenton over the summer, wrapping up in mid-August. Just days before she was suppose to embark on her journey, her mother passed away. Wilson started her long distance swim at Port Severn on June 20.
