Man arrested in thefts from change machine
City police have made an arrest after a man found a way to steal change from a change machine by pulling out the bill before the machine had accepted it but after the change had already been dispensed. An investigation was launched at the Peterborough Transit terminal on Simcoe Street on Aug. 12 after the man had made thefts through the scheme for two days in a roll and then left the area in a vehicle, police said. The investigation later determined the man’s identity and an arrest was made Monday. Jason Wootton, 46, of Sherin Avenue, was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, possession of a coin-operated device breaking instrument and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking. He was held in custody for an appearance in bail court on Tuesday.
