Team Gatorade earns Petes scrimmage bragging rights

Team Gatorade earned the Petes training camp scrimmage bagging rights with a pair of wins during the first on-ice action at training camp Wednesday at the Memorial Centre.

Gatorade beat Team East Side Mario’s 6-2 in the morning and Team CCM 2-1 in the evening. CCM and ESM will play in the final scrimmage at 9 a.m. Thursday. Players will then be divided into two teams for the Maroon and White game Friday at 6 p.m.

Adam Timleck stole the show in the opening scrimmage scoring a goal and setting up three. Parker Casey, grandson of long-time Petes executive Pat Casey, scored on two of Timleck’s set ups and added an assist. Jonne Tammela had a goal and assist while Connor MacEachern and Josh Barracloug­h also scored. Zach Gallant had two assists with singles to Nick Isaacson and Liam Haslam. Scoring for ESM were Luke Wyatt and Matthew Falls on a penalty shot. Carson Gallagher and Isaac Emon had assists.

Dylan Wells stopped all 14 shots he faced and Nate McDonald 20 of 22 in the Gatorade net. Billy Day stopped 21 of 22 and Peterborou­gh native Blake Curran 10 of 15 for ESM.

MacEachern scored both Gatorade goals in the night-cap. Casey had an assist. Jake Nimmo had the lone CCM goal with Ian McKinnon assisting. Wells stopped 18 of 19 shots and MacDonald 16 of 16. Scott Smith stopped all 13 he faced and Hunter Jones 17 of 19.

Smith shines in fitness testing

Goaltender Scott Smith was the top performer in Tuesday ’s fitness testing, finishing with the top score in three events.

The top performers in each of the tests players were put through included: 400m Run - Tyler Rollo 59.70s, Jake Nimmo 1:01.50s, Carson Gallagher 1:01.53s; 40m Sprint - Ethan Ramsden 4.26s, Matt McNamara 4.40s, C.J. Clarke 4.53s, Logan DeNoble 4.53s; Bench Press- Scott Smith 29 reps, Josh Coyle 28 reps, Cole Fraser 26 reps; Vertical Jump - Jonathan Ang 35”, Smith 34”, Brandon Prophet 32”; Penta-Jump Smith 52’6”, Dylan Wells 51’2”, Fraser 50’9”; Sit-Ups - Smith 54, Nicholas Favaro 52, Adrien Beraldo 47.

Roster notes

Brady MacDonald was the lone scratch from the Tuesday training camp scrimmages. Petes head coach Jody Hull said MacDonald was excused due to illness.
