Laughing with Ladybugs
Fun fundraiser for brain tumour research features a night of comedy in Omemee
The 10th and final Laughing with the Ladybugs fundraiser was held Sept. 17 very successfully. The event raises funds for b.r.a.i.n.child (Brain Tumour Research, Assistance and Information Network) at SickKids in honour of Kathryn Peeters’ continued journey with brain tumours.
The first Ladybugs was held to mark the 10th anniversary of Kathryn’s diagnosis at age four. Kathryn is considered one of the fortunate patients to have made it to that milestone (and beyond). Despite many challenges, Kathryn has survived when so many other patients have not.
The event’s name came from Kathryn’s love of ladybugs. She has an extensive collection, approximately 2,500 items to date. In her words, “When you are blind and have a brain tumour, you need all the luck you can get and ladybugs are good luck!”
Considering the event includes comedic entertainment, Laughing with the Ladybugs fit the bill.
The funds raised for the event will help the researchers at the Brain Tumour Research Centre in Toronto find new treatments and hopefully cures for the terrible disease.
