Sexual assault arrest

A city man has been charged with sex offences involving a child. Police received a report Oct. 19 that a man had allegedly sexually assaulted a girl under 12 at his home. The girl is known to him, police say. He was arrested at his home Thursday. Edward Cecil Hayes, 59, of Peterborough, was charged with sexual assault on a person under 16, sexual interference with a person under 16 and invitation to sexual touching on a person under 16. He was held in custody and was to appear in court Friday.
