Minor Bantam AAA Petes savour second-place tourney finish

The Peterborough Evinrude Blades Minor Bantam AAA Petes took second place at the Boston Pizza Bantam Icefest tournament held in Peterborough last week.

In their first game on Thursday, the Petes fell 4-2 against the Halton Hurricanes.

J.R. Avon scored both goals for Peterborough assisted by Evan Brault, Jack Falkner, Nathan Oickle and Tyler Savard. Gavin Bradt played well in net.

The team rebounded in their second game, defeated the Eastern

Dane Young and Falkner scored two goals each with singles added by Brault and Oickle. Assists went to Colby Turcott, Nathan Twohey, Ryan Cromie, Connor Lever, Avon and Savard. Ayden Bulmer played a strong game in between the posts.

Next the team faced the North Bay Trippers and managed a 2-1 victory.

Avon and Oickle scored for Peterborough with multiple key saves by Bradt.

Mason Tardiff, Cromie, Falkner, Brault and Young scored for Peterborough with assists from Matt Campbell and Young. Bulmer played another strong game in net.

Advancing to the quarterfinals, the Petes defeated the Markham Majors 3-2 in overtime.

Falkner, Avon, and Tardiff contributed goals for Peterborough assisted by Clayton Shaughnessy, Tardiff and Avon.

Facing the fifth-ranked Ottawa Senators in the semifinal, Peterborough

Unfortunately, the team was then defeated 4-3 in the championship game against the Ottawa Valley Titans.

Brault, Oickle and Falkner scored for Peterborough with assists from Falkner and Savard. Bulmer received MVP in the championship game for his outstanding play in net.
