Where to ring in the new year
To ring in 2017, events are happening in and around Peterborough on New Year’s Eve.
Here’s a look at what’s going on Saturday night:
• Max Mouse and the Gorillas is hosting a matinee fundraiser, Dance for Operation Catnip, at The Spill on George St. from 3 to 6 p.m. Delbert Metheral is the special guest. The Spill is also hosting at Dungeons and Dragons party on New Year’s Eve, starting at 8 p.m.
• The city is holding a public skate at the Northcrest Arena on Marina Blvd. from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. It’s open to all ages at $3.50 per person. Hockey sticks and nets are prohibited.
• Lakefield’s Canoe and Paddle, on Bridge St., is hosting New Year’s Eve with The Gunslingers. It includes a three-course meal, a drink, champagne at midnight and music by The Gunslingers. Tickets are $80 and it runs from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. For more information, call 705-651-1111
• The Rocket Revue, with special guest Beau Dixon, is performing at the Parkway Banquet Hall, beside Mark’s Work Wearhouse. Tickets are $42 and include party favours at midnight. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets available at Moondance and Parkway Banquet Hall.
• Lakeview Arts Barn is presenting New Year’s Eve at the Lab from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Bobcaygeon. There’s an all-night buffet, live music by Terri Crawford and the Retro Rockets and free rides home at the end of the night. Tickets are $50 per person. For more information, call 705-738-2037
• The Pig ’s Ear Tavern on Brock St. has the Mayhemingways on stage. The party runs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are $5 and include party favours.
• Peterborough English Country Dancers are hosting a country dance party at St. John’s Anglican Church, starting at 8:30 p.m. Linda Clark, Saskia Tomkins and Steafan Hannigan are preforming, with dances called by Susan Bunting and Lorraine Sutton. No partners or experience is needed for the scent-free, alcohol-free event. Tickets are $15 per person, or $10 for students. For more information, call 705-745-1630
• The Black Horse Pub on George St. will have live music by Pop Machine. Admission is $5 and the show runs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The dining room is sold out, but there’s still room to dance.
• ARIA Night Club has DJ Muddler and Rith, aerial performances and a balloon drop at midnight. The party starts at 10 p.m. and goes until 3 a.m. Tickets range from $15 to $30.
• The Junction Nightclub is celebrating New Year’s Eve from 10 p.m. to 3 p.m. with DJ Bill Porter. Tickets are $10, plus fees and include party favours and a champagne toast at midnight.
• And don’t forget, there’s free bus service in the city New Year’s Eve, starting at 7:20 p.m. until Sunday at 3:20 a.m. The last bus leaves the Simcoe St. terminal at 2:40 a.m. Handi-Van service is also free during the same hours.
