Public library aiming to raise money for programs by selling naming rights for rooms, services in renovated facility

The city is looking for corporate donors who may be interested in sponsorship opportunities at the newly renovated Peterborough Public Library.

The main branch of the library is undergoing a $12-million expansion and renovation. Construction is expected to be complete next fall.

The city issued a release on Wednesday stating that it is seeking businesses and donors interested in sponsoring assets, facilities, programs or services at the library.

This doesn’t mean the library is looking to sell naming rights for the entire building: Sometimes, specific rooms or services offered in public buildings are named for a donor.

The release states that the money will be reinvested into the library and its programs.

The new library will be expected to have a front glass facade. The children’s department will be moved to the lower level and there will be a new, grand staircase leading downstairs.

There will also be a bank of new bay windows along the Bethune St. side of the building.

The library is currently operating out of a temporary location in the lower level of Peterborough Square.

The red-brick law office next door is under demolition. It’s making way for anew accessible parking and green space for the library.

Prospective donors are asked to get in touch with the city’s corporate sponsorship co-ordinator Scott Elliott by email at selliott@ peterborough.ca or by phone at 705-742-7777, ext. 1879.
