Matt Damon has no problem stepping aside for Sandra Bullock’s Debbie Ocean and the rest of the all-female cast set to reboot his franchise. In fact, he’s all for it.

“I’m excited to see what the women do with it,” he says. “It’s a fun idea, and we certainly had a great run with it. Now it’s time for the ladies to take over.”

Damon played Linus Caldwell in the trilogy, which also starred George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and he’ll reprise the character in

“I’m going to go shoot my bit in a couple of weeks, so I haven’t been on set yet,” he says. “I think that’s the way they want it. I think they want it to be a secret, so I can’t tell you much.”

A first-look photo released by Warner Bros. earlier this week showed Bullock and her stylish looking cohorts, including Cate Blanchett (Lou), Anne Hathaway (Daphne Kulger), Sarah Paulson (Tammy), Mindy Kaling (Amita), Rihanna (Nine Ball), Helena Bonham Carter (Rose) and newcomer Awkwafina (Constance).

The film follows Debbie and her gang of thieves as they attempt to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. In addition to Damon, you can expect cameos from Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and James Corden.

Before filming his cameo, Damon is taking time to plug his “Buy a Lady a Drink” campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness of the global water crisis in Third World countries.

Damon’s Water.org (which he co-founded with Gary Little) and Stella Artois are offering branded chalices at Ontario LCBO stores and online at BuyALadyADrink.ca, with part of the proceeds going to clean water initiatives.

is set to open June 8, 2018.
