Each month, St. John Ambulance hosts a full schedule of first aid training courses in Ashburnham at the Peterborou­gh Lions Community Centre, 347 Burnham St. The sessions are usually planned for weekdays.

There are also weekend and evening sessions at the SJA facility at Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Standard First Aid

the March

The standard first aid course takes two days to complete and is designed to provide comprehens­ive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for March 7 and 8; March 22 and 23 and March 28 and 29 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training with the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency First Aid

The emergency first aid course can be done in one day and provides basic first aid training and includes CPR and AED procedures.

Sessions in emergency first aid with level A CPR are planned for March 7; March 22 and March 28 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you are looking for a weekend course, SJA offers workshops at their Applewood training facility, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: March 4 and 5; March 11 and 12; March 18 and 19 and March 25 and 26 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for March 5, March 12 and March 19 at Applewood.

Renewals

If you’re looking to renew your standard first aid certificat­e? There is a renewal class March 30 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., depending on your chosen level.

If you need to update your CPR certificat­e, take an afternoon class March 4 or March 11 from 1:30 to 5 p.m.; an evening class is available March 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at SJA ‘s Applewood location. Babysittin­g Course The popular Babysittin­g Basics/ Home Alone workshop offers four sessions during the Marchh break. Dates are March 10, March 15, March 16 and March 17. Hours run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Parents need to call for location.

The course is geared to youths 10 to 14 years old and prepares students to handle a variety of situations. The classes combine lectures, workbook exercises and hands-on practice.

Cost is $65 and workbook.

Peterborou­gh is one of 25 Canadian cities to make U-Haul’s Canadian Growth Cities list measuring 2016 migration trends reports. Growth cities are calculated by the net gain of arriving one-way U-Haul trucks over departing one-way U-Haul trucks for a calendar year, according to a release from U-Haul. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactio­ns that occur annually. Peterborou­gh was 19th on the list. Kamloops, B.C. topped the list, followed by Belleville, Guelph, Gravenhurs­t, North Bay, Parry Sound, Woodstock, Trenton, Chilliwack, B.C. and Ottawa.
