Provincial award for student
PACE’S Allaura Langford to receive OSSTF visual arts award
Peterborough Alternative and Continuing Education program student Allaura Langford has won a provincial award for her visual art.
Langford, a 16-year-old Grade 11 student, was named winner in the Grades 9 and 10 visual arts category of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation’s 2017 Student Achievement Awards, according to a release from the PACE program.
She placed first at the district, regional and provincial levels in judging.
Langford and her visual arts teacher Micky Renders will be awarded at a ceremony during OSSTF’s provincewide annual general meeting in Toronto over the March Break, the release states.
OSSTF established the Student Achievement Awards in honour of long-time member Marion Drysdale, the release states. The provincial office received a variety of creative submissions for the awards from across the province, based on the theme of #MirrorMirror,
“The support of OSSTF in sponsoring this award showcases the dedication of professionals like Micky, and the strength of the public education system in Ontario,” stated Tracey German OSSTF representative Tracey Germa for District 14, which represents high school teachers at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
“Micky Renders supports students in a specialized and alternative learning environment to explore their creativity.”
“The award is a testament to the excellence found in staff and students around KPR,” board education director Rusty Hick stated. “Our employees truly care about their students and about inspiring students’ originality, success and creativity. We are proud of both Allaura and Micky for this outstanding achievement.”
