CHEX-TV’s Mike Judson’s signoff Thursday night was his last for the local television station.

Judson resigned from Corus Entertainment after five years at CHEX.

He was the Peterborough station’s weather analyst and hosted and produced

The father of one is going back to radio. He’ll be hosting a morning radio show in the city, but isn’t saying more than that just yet. He did, however, say you can expect to hear him on the air in two weeks.

The Thornhill native said he lucked into his first radio gig while working at a record store in Antigonish, N.S. about a decade ago.

From there, Judson went on to work in radio for five years, spending time at stations in Calgary and Lindsay before covering shifts at Country 105 and Energy in Peterborough. After working at Magic 96.7 (now Oldies 96.7), Judson landed the role at CHEX.

Taken under the wing of former sports anchor Tyler Calver, Judson was introduced to the city in a new way.

“The connection with the community, it was so immediate as soon as I started at CHEX,” Judson said.

In taking on his new role at CHEX, Judson also developed a new passion: The weather.

He started chasing severe thunderstorms, live-tweeting them to keep people up to date.

Judson follows storms 24/7, saying it’s a no holiday-style job.

“Unless I was out of the country, I was going to be covering any storm or any system that came through.”

With evenings free now, Judson said he’ll have more time to chase storms, spend time with his wife Jenn and his son Tommy, 2, and become more a part of the arts scene.

And that was the idea behind making the move back to morning radio.

“I need a better balance in my life between work, between the arts and my family.”

Judson joined The Citiots Improv last year after doing some work with them the year before.

Now he’s taking on acting gigs and singing, too.

On Saturday, Judson is in Crime City, a live show at Gordon Best Theatre that has its cast acting as characters from a 1950s radio show.

His love for the weather isn’t going anywhere, though. While he won’t be broadcasting on television anymore, that doesn’t mean you won’t be hearing from him about it.

“I’m still going to be chasing and tweeting every storm that comes through this city.”
