Senior Lions win third straight COSSA title

The Adam Scott Lions senior boys basketball team completed the COSSA triple crown in Belleville on Friday.

The Lions won a third straight COSSA title, this one at the AA level, while continuing their threeyear unbeaten streak in COSSA and Kawartha play, a stretch of 57 games.

They made no doubt about it dismantlin­g St. Theresa’s 76-47 in the final after beating the host Moira Trojans 60-29 in semifinal play. The Lions advance to OFSAA from March 6 to 8 in Sault Ste. Marie.

“We played the best basketball we’ve played ever,” said Nick Sheppard, who coaches the Lions with Steve Deline.

“Overall, it was a fantastic team effort. The team finally, truly came together which was refreshing. They worked the ball around really well and rose to the occasion. They were mentally prepared, physically prepared and believed in each other and the process. They went out and executed a perfect game.

“It’s three years in a row and a lot of it has to do with coach Deline and the system he’s put in place and the winning mentality he brings to the table,” Sheppard said.

He said they’re hoping to do damage at OFSAA. “We’re pretty eager to get on the court Monday for practice. We know we have a special group here and we really want to turn some heads at the OFSAA level,” he said.

Against Moira, Malcolm White had 14 points and Palmer 12.

In junior action, Adam Scott lost their semifinal to Picton 53-33 while the Holy Cross Hurricanes were beaten 70-49 by Prince Edward Country. Ryan Brodie had 17 points for the Hurricanes.
