Currier scores hat trick

NLL ROUNDUP Named first star in leading Knighthawk­s past Stealth 12-8

L A N G L E Y, B. C. — Peterborou­gh’s Josh Currier had a hat trick and an assist on 10 shots and was named first star as the Rochester Knighthawk­s got past the Vancouver Stealth 12-8 on Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.

Brad Gillies, Joe Resetarits and Kyle Jackson all struck twice for Rochester (3-6). Peterborou­gh’s Cory Vitarelli, Adam Bomberry and Dylan Evans rounded out the attack. Vitarelli also had two assists while fellow Peterborou­gh Lakers Ian Llord and Andrew Suitor each each an assist.

Corey Small scored four goals for the Stealth (3-6), with Justin Salt and James Rahe adding two goals apiece.

Laker Matt Vinc stopped 35 shots for the win in net as Tye Belanger kicked out 37-of-47 shots in defeat.

The Knighthawk­s were 1 for 2 on the power play and Vancouver was scoreless on two attempts.

Self scores hat trick

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mitch Jones had four goals and an assist as the Buffalo Bandits scored three times late to beat the Toronto Rock 15-12 on Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.

Peterborou­gh’s Brad Self scored a hat trick and had an assist while fellow Laker Mark Steenhuis had two goals and two assists. Blaze Riorden and Craig England also struck twice for Buffalo (3-5). Alex Kedoh Hill and Dhane Smith also chipped in.

Peterborou­gh’s Turner Evans had two goals and an assist for the Rock while Brett Hickey, Stephan Leblanc, Phil Caputo and Challen Rogers each had a pair of goals for the Rock (5-3). Brodie Merrill and Dan Lintner rounded out the attack. Anthony Cosmo made 48 saves for the win as Nick Rose turned away 27 shots in defeat.

The Bandits were 4 for 6 on the power play while Toronto scored five times on seven opportunit­ies. Josh Currier

Mammoth win on the road

U N C A S V I L L E , C t . - Peterborou­gh’s Shawn Evans was limited to one assist as the visiting Colorado Mammoth shut down the New England Black Hawks 14-9 on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Laker Evan Kirk allowed nine of Colorado’s goals in net for New England.

Evans now had 19 goals and 36 assists to sit fourth in league scoring, six points behind leader Corey Small of the Vancouver Stealth.

Rush edge Roughnecks

SASKATOON — Jeff Cornwall scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Saskatchew­an Rush edged the Calgary Roughnecks 12-11 on Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.

Ben McIntosh and Robert Church each had hat tricks for the Rush (6-2). Peterborou­gh Laker Adam Jones, Mike Messenger, Matthew Dinsdale and Mark Matthews supplied the rest of the offence.

Wesley Berg led Calgary (3-5) with four goals while Tyler Digby added a hat trick. Dane Dobbie struck twice with Jeff Shattler and Garrett McIntosh also chipping in. Peterborou­gh Laker Curtis Dickson had three assists for Calgary

Aaron Bold made 34 saves for the win in net as Christian Del Bianco stopped 35 shots in defeat.

Saskatchew­an scored twice on three power plays and the Roughnecks were 3 for 5.
