Hadfield wins silver, bronze at provincial championships

Peterborough’s Kawartha Nordic Ski Club hosted the 2017 Ontario Midget Championships over the weekend at the club’s North Kawartha Township facility.

Nearly 200 athletes competed, starting Friday night with a firstever Snow Cross event, in which skiers navigated a series of hills and jumps before crossing the finish line.

The real competition began Saturday and Kawartha Nordic skiers represented the club well at the event.

Gavin Hadfield took home silver in the 2004 Peewee Boys Free Interval Start race and bronze in the 2004 Peewee Boys Classic Mass Start race.

The club’s other Top 10 finishers in the Free Interval Start race included Palmer Lew, George Elcombe, Rocky Walsworth, Luke Newbigging, Eric Unger, Maclain Walsworth, Jasmine Gadsden, Rowan Griffin, Minowe Simpson and Ali Jones.

The club’s Top 10 racers in the classic mass start race included Gavin Hadfield, Tanner HarrisBarton and Isaac Smith.
