Scandalous tales of the Pig’s Ear

Market Hall Performing Arts Centre presents 152 Years of Scandalous Pig’s Ear Stories – End of an Ear-A on Saturday at 8 p.m. The evening features speakers John Punter, who has 50 years of family ownership of the Pig’s Ear, and Elwood Jones, a local historian with Trent Valley Archives; in addition to stories, music and friends.

Glacier Lecture

Trent University presents a lecture titled Melting Ice, Melting Records: Glaciers and the Amplificat­ion of Climate Change; Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The presenter is Rafico Ruiz, who is the Roberta Bondar Postdoctor­al Fellow in Northern and Polar Studies at Trent. The talk focuses on artworks that features the melting glacier as a symptom of climate change, and how the glacier’s melting makes climate change immediatel­y felt on a human scale. Spring Potluck

Sacred Heart Parish Hall

On Saturday at noon, Sacred Heart Parish Hall presents a lunch prepared by Chef Toby Tyler of Electric City Gardens. The lunch features seasonal soup and salad, stuffed chicken breast or poached salmon served with roast potatoes and vegetables, with almond cheese cake for dessert. Tickets are $10 per person and proceeds will go to the Children’s Bell Choir and the Pipe Organ Restoratio­n Fund. Bridal Show

The Kawartha Spring Bridal Show takes place this Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Venue, 286 George St. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the door, or in advance at www.peterborou­gh.snapd.com.

Food Handler Course

Seeds of Change is offering a Food Handler Course on Thursday April 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This course is offered free of charge to all community members, especially current and potential volunteers of Seeds of Change who are involved with their community meals. An instructor from Peterborou­gh Public Health will be presenting this course over a as a six-hour inclass session. The course material is delivered by an instructor along with videos, activities, and a slideshow presentati­on, followed by a test. Those who receive a passing grade of 70 per cent will be awarded a certificat­e that is valid in Ontario for five years.
