First aid training can help save a life

St. John Ambulance has released the dates for first aid classes in May, both in Ashburnham and at their facility at Applewood.

The Ashburnham classes take place this month at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham St. Weekend sessions happen at Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Here’s a look at the lineup for May.

Standard First Aid

Standard first aid is designed to provide comprehens­ive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for: May 3 to May 4; May 9 to May 10; May 17 to May 18 and May 30 to May 31 at the Lions Community Centre on Burnham Street. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training with the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost is $160 to $180 depending on the level you select.

Emergency First Aid

Emergency first aid provides basic first aid training and includes CPR and AED procedures.

Sessions in emergency first aid with level A CPR are planned for May 3; May 8; May 17 and May 30 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The same course with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost is $110 to $120 depending on the level you choose.

If you are looking for a weekend course, SJA offers workshops at their Applewood training facility, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: May 6 to May 7; May 13 to May 14 and May 27 to May 28 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for May 6, May 13 and May 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. at Applewood.

Renewals

Renew your standard first aid with a renewal session slated for May 24, at the Lions centre, 8:30 to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Cost is $110 to $120, depending on level.

Need to refresh your CPR? Take one of four renewal classes: May 30 at starting at 6:30 p.m. or May 6, May 13 or May 27 starting at 1:30 p.m. at Applewood.

Cost is $60 for either level.

Babysittin­g Course

SJA has also added a Babysittin­g Basics class in late April to coincide with a P.A. day and is set for April 28 at the Lions Community Centre. The course is for tweens 10 to 14 years old and prepares them to handle a variety of situations. The classes combine lectures, workbook exercises and handson practice.

Cost is $65 and includes a workbook.
