Regional gold all-around for synchro swimmers

Kawartha Trent Synchro Club’s teen synchro swimmers were golden girls at the Novice East Regional Competitio­n last weekend.

Eight athletes headed to Ottawa to compete in their final competitio­n of the season. All athletes competed in two events: individual figures and their routine competitio­n.

“These athletes have been working hard all season and this is a great opportunit­y for them to show off their skills and experience a competitio­n. Coaches are extremely happy with how these athletes performed and represente­d our club,” said recreation­al program coordinato­r Mattia Fonzo.

In one of the strongest showing ’s yet for KTSC’s novice athletes, all routines brought home gold medals. In the 11-12 novice team category, the team of Jane Hickey, Lilly Fenton, Erika Estabrooks and Mari Dalliday performed their winning routine to music from the classic Disney movie, Aladdin.

“We are so proud with how hard these girls have worked this season,” said coach Sabrina Adam. “I am so happy with how they swam.”

The team is also coached by Myranda Hawthorne and volunteer coach Myah Sandiland. In the 13-15 novice trio competitio­n, the Avengers themed routine swam by Lauren Stoyles, Ella Zeggerra Brown and Justine Platt-De Wit also received gold.

“These girls are a strong group of girls and this routine really allows them to show that to the judges.” said coach Nicole Hicks-Casey.

In her Solo category, Danielle Clarkson-Bulger won gold.

She was so excited with her results and I am very proud of her.” said coach Myranda Hawthorne, who was assisted by volunteer coach Myah Sandiland.

KTSC also brought home four medals in three figure categories. Clarkson-Bulger earned first place with her figure performanc­e. In the 11-12 figure category Dalliday placed first, Fenton second and Hickey ninth. In the 13-15 age figure category, Stoyles placed third with Zegerra-Brown coming 21st, Platt-De Wit 27th and Estabrooks 37th.

The swimmers next perform their routines in KTSC’s annual Splash Bash Swim Show May 12, 13 and 14 at the Trent University pool.
