Whiz kids compete at Science Fair
The Peterborough Regional Science Fair takes place Wednesday in the Science Complex at Trent University. Public viewing times are scheduled from 11:40 a.m. until noon and from 12:30 until 2 p.m. The judging for special awards will also take place during these times.
261 students from grades JK to 12 have registered their projects representing all different types of science, including general, biological, earth, physical, health, life and computer sciences.
Prizes will be awarded for different grade and subject categories during the awards ceremony in Wenjack Theatre from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. There will also be prizes for top school and teacher awards. Included are cash prizes and scholarships. There will also be draw prizes open to student participants. The grand prize is an expenses paid trip to the Canada Wide Science Festival in May at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan.
A guest speaker is scheduled from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. in Wenjack Theatre, prior to the awards presentation.
During the Science Fair, complimentary parking is available in Q and R lots. Lot R is just north of the Science Complex (south of East Bank Drive), and lot Q is north of lot R, on the north side of East Bank Drive.

Easter services
Two Northcrest Ward churches have planned special services for Easter.
Northminster United Church, 300 Sunset Blvd., will hold a Good Friday service Friday at 10 a.m. and an Easter Sunday Service Sunday at 10 a.m. The children will decorate the cross. The community is invited to participate in these celebrations. The church is wheelchair accessible with ample parking.
Fairview United Church will hold Good Friday and Easter Sunday services at 10 a.m. both days. Everyone is welcome. The church is located at 724 Centerline, just north of the zoo traffic lights.
Trent Garden
The Trent Vegetable Garden is looking for volunteers. If you are interested in ecological food production, small scale food sustainability and community building and have some free time, this might be a good fit for you. Trent Vegetable Garden grows food for the Seasoned Spoon Cafe at Trent University and other campus and community organizations.

Wildlife outings
The Peterborough Field Naturalists (PFN) spring wildlife walks have begun and will continue each Sunday until May 28th. Meet at the Zoo parking lot at 8 a.m. to carpool to the walk location. The leader will confirm the destination on the day of the walk.
Outings generally last about three hours. Bring some change to donate towards gas costs and binoculars if possible. Dress for the weather.
