The Jack’s Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament is getting scrambled in 2017.

For the first time, due to popular demand, golfers can choose between a scramble (best ball) format or traditional play your own ball at the 31st annual event May 24 at Pine Crest Golf Club.

“We’re always discussing new ways to change the tournament,” said committee member Larry Gibson, grandson of the late Jack Gibson, the tournament’s namesake and former Hall chairman.

“We always take feedback and we’ve heard quite a few guys say they like the scramble format and we also hear guys who like the original play your own ball tournament. The committee thought, why can’t we do both? There is no reason we can’t.

“We’ve, hopefully, been able to accommodate people and keep the tournament fresh.”

The prize for the winning scramble team is a foursome at Wildfire Golf Club.

“This tournament is meant for fun and to raise awareness about the sports hall of fame and raising money for our bursary program and to keep the hall going. We don’t put too much emphasis on the winners.”

The tournament entry fee remains $175 which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks on the course. A reception at the Evinrude Centre follows golf with a social hour sponsored by Peterborough Glass and dinner sponsored by Darling Insurance. Lunch and dinner are catered by Franz’s Butcher Shop. A live and silent auction follows dinner.

Registration is limited to 220. To register or confirm a tee time call 705-743-6897. Players who pay by May 19 are eligible for an earlybird draw to win back their registration fee.

All proceeds go to fund hall operating costs and four $1,500 bursaries awarded annually to local graduating high school studentathletes.

Other major sponsors include Molson Coors and Corby’s Wisers Deluxe. Hole in one sponsors are Trent Valley Honda and Merrett Home Hardware. The Tic Tac Dough sponsor is RBC Securities. Longest drive prizes by Molson Coors, Assante Wealth Management and putting contest prizes by Peterborough Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic and Trent Health In Motion.

Special draw prizes are sponsored by Molson Coors, Parnell’s Ski Shop, the Peterborough Petes (a pair of season tickets), Jack’s Restaurant, Adventure Outfitters and Paluski Boats. Other sponsors include Flannigan’s Butcher Shop and The Keg.
