Annexation could lead to more issues
Annexation is a normal thing so that a city can expand urban growth efficiently and progressively into the surrounding townships. Whereas the function of the townships is to service rural users and protect farm lands.
Problems arise when townships allow parasitic development to ring the city’s perimeter and block normal urban growth.
It is interesting that according to the Examiner editorial that the deal with the city requires the city to extend services to the township beyond the area to be annexed so that the township can have its own housing and industrial park. This is a repeat of the present problem - more urban sprawl.
Why doesn’t the Cavan Monaghan alternately concentrate its efforts on developing its own town of Millbrook which is already serviced with sewer and water. What about the province’s “Places to Grow” policy which was emphasizing dense urban growth and prevention of sprawl. Does it mean nothing?
Perhaps our member of provincial parliament could explain the policy in our situation? Perhaps we could hear from an economist Robert Lapum Langton St.
