The Joy of Easter

Trinity United Church is hosting a Joy of Easter Concert, this Sunday beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Bill Crane, the concert features a choir of 53 singers, from musical groups throughout the city, performing 8 joyful anthems - including works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Haydn. The choir will be accompanied by Robert Grandy on organ, with a special appearance by the Fairbairn Street Symphony Orchestra. Reverend Kevin Derry will provide a narrative of the Easter Story.

“We spend a good deal of time thinking about the significance of Easter” says Crane, “but to me, the lead up to it, through the dark season of Lent, through Holy Week and to Good Friday totally overshadow the joy of Easter itself”.

“This year I wanted to draw attention … to the joy of the Easter Event,” continues Crane. “Because Easter follows so quickly on the heels of Good Friday, it was felt that the third Sunday in Easter would provide enough time to separate the two celebrations in everyone’s mind. I wanted to use music to turn Easter into a festival and I wanted the music to be anthems that were familiar and loved”.

Admission to the concert is free and everyone is welcome. Voluntary contributions will be accepted after the concert with proceeds going to Trinity’s mission and service. Trinity United Church is located at 360 Reid St. For more information, please phone 705-743-3301 or visit www. trinitypeterborough.com.
