Jr. C Lakers get first win

Adam Churchill’s eight points paced the Peterborou­gh MinCom Kawartha Lakes Realty Jr. C Lakers to their first OJCLL win of the season 16-5 over the host Barrie Bombers on Sunday afternoon. A leaky roof at the Evinrude Centre forced cancellati­on of their game against the Gloucester Griffins on Saturday night. The Lakers were up 3-0 with seven minutes left in the first period of the OJCLL game when officials called off the game due to unsafe floor conditions, said Lakers’ manager Terry Preston. A make-up date has not yet been scheduled. On Sunday, Churchill scored five goals and three assists as the Lakers improved to 1-1 on the season outscoring Barrie 6-2 in the first period and 7-0 in the third. Travis Ferguson had three goals and three assists, Kyle Nelson two goals and two assists, Riley Caldwell a goal and six assists, Cal Davis a goal and three assists, Colin brown a goal and two assists, Matt Smith, Trent Larock and Brody McBain a goal and assist. Matt Currie had two assists. The Lakers visit the Whitby Warriors on Wednesday. Their next home game is 7 p.m. Saturday against the Fergus Thistles at the Evinrude. round three against American opponent Ryan Lobdell of the Watertown boxing Club. The bout was part of a fundraisin­g card for a Cornwall youth shelter with former world heavyweigh­t championsh­ip contender Gerry Cooney serving as guest speaker. The cost is $100 per person which includes golf, a cart, on course treats, dinner and chances to win prizes on the course and at the banquet.
