BRIDGENORTH MEDICAL CENTRE EVACUATED
A Peterborough County OPP officer creates a barricade on Champlain Road in Bridgenorth during a bomb threat investigation at the medical centre on Monday. No bomb was found.
BRIDGENORTH -- Staff at the medical centre in Bridgenorth was evacuated Monday morning following a bomb threat to the facility.
Peterborough County OPP were called to the Chemung Region Medical Centre on Ward Street shortly after 9 a.m. Monday to investigate.
No bomb was found and no one was injured.
The centre received a call just after 9 a.m. stating there was a bomb in the building.
Staff was immediately evacuated and OPP were called, OPP Const. Greg White said.
The Tim Hortons outlet across the street from the centre as well as the houses on either side of the facility were also cleared out when OPP arrived.
Police blocked off a section of Ward Street near the centre, rerouting traffic around the area.
OPP then checked the building for an explosive device, but the search turned up empty.
The OPP bomb squad only investigates if a package is found, White said.
The centre, Tim Hortons and Ward Street were reopened by 12:30 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing as police look into who made the call.
