Water levels continue to rise on Otonabee, Kawartha lakes
The Otonabee River rose another four centimetres overnight into Tuesday, the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority said, as a flood warning remained in effect for the Peterborough area.
As of Tuesday the water levels on the river below Lock 19 were at 189.06 metres above sea level.
The river was expected to rise another four centimetres overnight into Wednesday, according to Tuesday’s update of the flood warning from Otonabee Conservation.
The rising waters, as the rainfall to the areas north of the Kawartha lake from last week moves through the system, has resulted in nuisance flooding in the area, including at the Peterborough Marina and Driscolls Cottages in OtonabeeSouth Monaghan Township.
Otonabee Conservation also warns that water levels are also continuing to rise on the Buckhorn, Chemong, Pigeon, Lower Buckhorn, Lovesick, Stoney, Clear and Katchewanooka lakes because there have been no changes in the flows in and out of the lakes.
On Monday the tri-lakes (Pigeon, Chemong and Buckhorn) and Lower Buckhorn Lake rose by about 2.5 cm, Lovesick Lake rose about 3.5 cm while Stoney, Clear and Katchewanooka Lakes rose about 7 cm.
Rice Lake rose about 5 cm on Monday and was expected to rise another 5 cm overnight into Wednesday.
A flood warning also remains in effect from the Lower Trent Conservation Authority for the Trent River between Hastings and Trenton.
There has been flooding at the Green Acres cottages east of Campbellford.
