Spring book sales at Selwyn libraries

The Selwyn Public Library book sales are on this weekend and next weekend. The Bridgenort­h Library Book Sale will be on May 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting) and May 20 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (weather permitting) at 826 Ward St., Bridgenort­h (beside the OPP Office).

The Lakefield Library Book Sale will be on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Centennial Room, next to the library at 8 Queen St.

The Ennismore Library Book Sale will be on May 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the library at 551 Ennis Rd. in Ennismore. If you are interested in donating books to the sale, please contact your local branch. Please note that the libraries do not accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, textbooks, encycloped­ias, dirty, mouldy or smelly books, magazines, VHS tapes, or music cassettes.

Looking for a unique Mother’s Day gift? The Bridgenort­h Library is hosting its first-ever Paint Nite fundraiser on May 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Bridgenort­h Community Hall (next to the library). All funds raised will be designated to children’s/teen programmin­g; specifical­ly, maker-related materials. Tickets are $45 each and include all your supplies. Drinks will be available for purchase. Lakefield Historical Society

All are welcome to the Historical Society meeting at the Lakefield Legion on May 25 at 7 p.m. The guest speaker for this month will be Alan Brunger, a retired Trent University Geography Professor, who will do a slide presentati­on and talk on the Warships on the Waterway – the story of the seven RCN Fairmile anti-submarine motor launches constructe­d in Orillia and navigated through the Trent-Severn Waterway. They served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II in the period 1941-44 serving as armed anti-submarine patrol vessels along the coastal waters of Eastern Canada. Join us to hear and see the little known story of this forgotten aspect of our local waterway.

Christ Church Community Museum

Christ Church Community Museum will hold their annual volunteer meeting and AGM on May 17 at 7 p.m. at Christ Church. For further informatio­n call Shirley Twist at 705-749-2018.

Lakefield Painting Group

There is a group of painters that meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lakefield at 47 Regent St. All are welcome, no matter what level of skill. The group meets from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hall, and the cost is $5, and participan­ts should bring their own bag lunch. For more informatio­n contact Judith Nicholas at 705652-6856.

Lakefield United Church

The Lakefield United Church will have its Tulip Tea and Fashion Show at 2 p.m. on May 25. Tickets are $15 and are available from the church office at 705-652-3126. The ticket price includes admission, and tea and scones.

Bridgenort­h United Church

On May 24 the United Church Women are hosting their annual Lilac Tea and Muffin Party from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Admission is $3.00 for all-you-can-eat muffins, baked goods, deli selections, salads, jam and coffee. Johnston’s Green house will also have plants for sale.

The Annual Church Garage Sale is happening on May 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. There will be refreshmen­ts and snacks. You can drop off your items starting May 25 after 6 p.m. and all day on May 26.

Fairview United Church

Fairview United Church will be having its Yard Sale and barbecue on May 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine. The church is located at 724 Center Line, Selwyn.
