Family fun at the Zoo Fun Run
The 2017 Riverview Park and Zoo Fun Run takes place June 3 from 8 until 11 a.m.
This all-ages, family-friendly event includes a 5 km Run/Walk as well as a 1 km Kids Run, with all proceeds going to supporting the park and zoo. This race, which weaves through the zoo and its expansive parkland, is for fun only and is not a competitive event. Planned start times are 9 a.m. for the 1k Kids Run and 9:15 a.m. for the 5k Run/Walk.
Advance registration is recommended. Early bird registration, that ends May 21, is $20 for the 1k Kids Run and $30 for the 5k Run/ Walk. Registration after May 21 is $25 for the 1k Kids Run and $40 for the 5k Run/Walk. The registration fee includes a race kit with a run shirt. Register at runningroom. com. Registration will also be available starting at 8 a.m. on race day but only a limited number of race kits/ shirts will be available at that time.

Trunk sale
The Friends of the Hastings Library group is holding their third annual Trunk Sale
Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hastings Civic Centre parking lot, located at the corner of Albert and Bridge Streets in Hastings. Funds raised go to the Hastings Branch Library.
Gaza presentation
A presentation on Gaza, Children of the Intifada, with Heather Spears, takes place tonight at Sadleir House, 751 George St. N. at 7 p.m.
“For 30 years, author and artist Heather Spears has felt drawn to Gaza and Israel, and to the need to witness to the lives of children in crisis,” states a press release.
Spears, winner of the Pat Lowther Award, CBC Literary Award, and Governor-General’s Award, will show a CD of her drawings from the Intifada, read her own poetry and conclude her presentation with current information on life in Gaza City, based on a long-time relationship she has with her adopted family in Gaza.
Refreshments will be served. Zatoun olive oil and Za’atar herb packets will be available for purchase, in support of Palestinian farmers.
This event is sponsored by Peterborough Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), who are also supporters of a Gazan family.
There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted.
Golf for CMHA HKPR
The 12th annual CMHA HKPR Healthy Mind, Healthy Life Golf Tournament, sponsored by Kevan and Roberta Herod of Herod Financial Services, takes place Thursday, June 8 at The Quarry Golf and Country Club, Ennismore. This tournament encourages ongoing conversation about mental health and helps raise funds to support programs and services offered by CMHA HKPR (Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge).
“Herod Financial Services knows that through talking about our mental health, the stigma of mental illness can be eliminated and more people will get help. We are proud to support CMHA HKPR in their endeavors,” says Kevan Herod.
Registration is at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Golfers can register as foursomes or as singles. The cost is $150 per person which includes use of a golf cart, lunch provided at registration, dinner, team photo, tournament contests and prizes.
Register by Thursday and you will be eligible for entry for early bird prizes.
Funds from the 2016 tournament have been used towards Living Life to the Full, a mental wellness based group workshop; the provision of 1,500 Wellness Tool-kits for new CMHA clients; and continuing support of mental health education.
