TASSS, St. Peter strike gold
Local high school rowers compete at South Niagara Rowing Club High School Regatta; Peterborough regatta set for Saturday
The South Niagara Rowing Club play-by-play announcer pronounced the senior girls quad final the “best race of the day,” calling out the upset finish as the Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School boat from Peterborough powered the last 250 metres and surged ahead to overtake the boat favoured to win in a photo finish at the club’s regatta in Welland.
The gold medal crew consists of Maddy McGrath, Brianna Tombs, Avril Vanderpost and Roz Shepherd.
Shepherd also snagged the bronze medal in the senior girls 63 kg single event, and McGrath and Tombs took fifth in the senior girls double race.

Neil Ogrodnik teamed with her in the mixed double event for gold.
The St. Peter junior girls crew of Aria Kennaley and Rosa Martin won their heat and were awarded a fifth-place finish.
