Stockdale Central is performing in the city in June to raise money for a church in Douro.

The five-piece band is playing two shows at Market Hall on June 11. They’re raising money for St. Joseph’s Church. Shows are at 2 and 7 p.m.

Stockdale Central will be playing a number of genres, including classic and new country, old-time fiddle tunes, and gospel.

The band features Beth Rider, Ray Vandervelde, Michael LeMoire, Chris Lingard and Brian Hornsby.

Rider and Vandervelde started Stockdale Central in 2010 after leaving the band Emily Creek after several years to branch out on their own.

Rider sings and plays bass in Stockdale. She entered the world of music at a young age, heavily influenced by her musical family.

Vandervelde does everything from sound to lead guitar. He’s also an active member of Mark Street United Church choir in East City.

LeMoire was the duo’s first recruit to join their band. Known as the “Fiddler from Douro,” LeMoire studied under the leadership of fiddle legend Graham Townsend. LeMoire founded Douro Old Tyme Fiddle and step contest, which ran for 15 years.

Hornbsy joined next. He plays pedal steel guitar and has performed with many local bands. Hornsby is a barber and owns the Friendly Corner Barber Shop on Lock Street.

Lindgar was the last piece to Stockdale’s puzzle. The Port Hope resident sings and plays drums and has performed with many bands all over southern Ontario.

Proceeds from the two shows at Market Hall will benefit St. Joseph’s. The church is known in the area for hosting the Douro Doings, a fundraiser for the church that happens every year on the Labour Day weekend in September.

NOTE: Tickets to the show at Market Hall are $20 for adults and $10 for students. They can be purchased from Carmella LeMoire at 705-652-7776 or Mary Carlow at 705-295-6494 or at the door.
