Lions Hamish McMaster, Kean Varga joining Trent

-

Trent University’s men’s rugby program has recruited two new homegrown talents, Hamish McMaster and Kean Varga. Both are current members of the OFSAA-bound Adam Scott Collegiate Lions senior boys team and will be looking to make a significant impact in the OUA this fall. “Peterborough’s local rugby programs have always produced quality players and it’s great to be able to offer those athletes a chance to compete at the highest level while helping them pursue post secondary education only minutes away from where they’ve enjoyed both their high school and club rugby” stated Trent head coach Tom McLeod. “Local programs have been a significant asset for us, the majority of our current squad come from Peterborough and the surrounding area. From Ajax to Belleville across the 401 and up into Lindsay and Bobcaygeon we have found a tremendous amount of athletes with massive potential. Club captain Jordan Buck is an Adam Scott alumnus. “Being a local student, throughout High School I would hear about the Trent Varsity men’s rugby team, and now being a member it has been incredibly rewarding being a part of the team’s growth and development from competing in the OCAA to returning to the OUA, a process that began long before I joined the program,” Buck said. “Now, with the number of local players on our roster, we have been increasing the presence of players from Peterborough, Lindsay and the surrounding areas, helping to augment and spread the image of high talent rugby in, and around Peterborough, a process that I am proud to be a part of.” The Excalibur are coming off of a quarter-final appearance in their return to the OUA and are looking to build on that success again in September.
