-

The Cavan FC won their debut match in the OSL Men's Central Region East on Thursday night with a 1-0 win over Olympiakos. After having numerous chances, Cavan scored about 80 minutes into the game even though they played a man short from the 20th minute mark of the first half due to a red card given to George Gill. The goal was scored by team captain Josh Penello assisted by Seth Mahabir. Keeper Jared Foxon earned the shutout. The defensive unit consisting of Stefano Pella, Rory Morley, Mitch Cummings, Sean Mayes held the opposition to two shots on net that Foxon handled with confidence. The midfield consisting of Josh Braga (Nacho), Joyal Gurung and Josh Penello took control of the middle of the field and set the tempo of the game. Attacking midfield players Michael Penello, Seth Mahiber posed an attacking threat whenever they entered the opponent's final third. Striker Gord McLaughlin positioned himself in key scoring areas but was unable to beat the opponent's keeper who made several key saves. Substitute Silent Nyamushanya made a positive impact as a striker and created several scoring chances. Key contributions from substitutes Steve Moffet, Daniel Clark-Collins, Mohammad Burhani, Lucus Clarke and Salih Miftari helped in making Cavan's first OSL game a successful outing.
