Group exhibit to fete Canada
An art gallery near Buckhorn is celebrating Canada’s 150th with a group exhibit of work by Canadian artists.
Gallery on the Lake will showcase Celebrating Canadian Artists from July 1 to 28.
The show will feature the work of at least 25 Canadian artists.
Gallery on the Lake opened in 2000 and exclusively exhibits fine art by Canadian artists.
Esther Inglis is the owner of the gallery.
She said the gallery typically features one or two artists at time.
In honour of Canada’s birthday, however, Inglis decided to celebrate with an abundance of artists.
“We are all about Canadian art, so who better than us to help celebrate Canada’s 150 than with artists who will create scenes of Canada and the Canadian landscape, which is so iconic,” she said.
Artists will each be creating a special piece for the exhibit.
“Each artist is creating a smaller piece so we can get lots of art in there,” Inglis said.
Gallery on the Lake kicked off its 17th season on April 29 with Woodland Magic, an exhibit by Keene landscape painter Lucy Manley.
On Saturday, Speaking of Trees, a collection of new works by Wendy Bermingham and Sheila Davis, took over the gallery.
An opening reception and a meet and greet with the two artists is happening on June 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.
After Celebrating Canadian Artists, Gallery on the Lake will pay tribute to Canada’s indigenous people by featuring an exhibit by Christian Morrisseau.
New work from Lloyd Wilson, Julia Veenstra and Steve Tracy will be showcased throughout the fall and an exhibit by John Lennard will close the gallery’s season.
Opening receptions and meet and greets with the artist usually take place on the first day of each exhibit.
Gallery on the Lake is one of Canada’s largest retail galleries. It’s located on County Road 36, three kilometres east of Buckhorn. Admission is free.
