Gallant in Top 10 of six categories at NHL Combine

Peterborou­gh Petes forward Zach Gallant put up impressive numbers at the 2017 NHL Scouting Combine last weekend in Buffalo, with Top 10 rankings in six of fifteen categories.

The combine gave Gallant, along with 103 other prospects, the opportunit­y to showcase themselves for all 31 NHL teams ahead of the 2017 NHL Draft, which will be held at United Center in Chicago on June 23 and 24.

The Oakville native is ranked as the 73rd projected pick in the draft by TSN’s director of scouting Craig Button and 64th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Gallant had Top 25 finishes in the following tests:

T-2nd – Pull Ups (consecutiv­e) - 12 4th – Wing Span – 79 inches 5th – Left Hand Grip – 149lb

6th – Aerobic Fitness (test duration) – 15:30

T-8th – VO2Max (maximum oxygen usage) – 57.0 (ml/kg/min)

T-9th – Right Hand Grip – 140lb

19th – Standing Long Jump – 105.5 inches

“I had a great experience at the NHL combine,” Gallant stated in a release from the Petes. “It was a once in a life time opportunit­y where I had the chance to speak with numerous NHL scouts and general managers. I was able to share the experience with friends and teammates that I had played with growing up. It was an incredible week and I am very thankful to have been selected to take part.”

Gallant’s was Peterborou­gh’s first round selection in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. He set career highs last season with 21 goals, 26 assists and 47 points in 68 games played, and was the team’s leading playmaker with eight assists in 12 playoff games.

Petes prospect Cameron Crotty also took part in the combine, along with Peterborou­gh native Owen Tippett (Mississaug­a).
