Lakers down Kodiaks

A shorthande­d Century 21 Lakers beat the Cobourg Kodiaks 11-7 Sunday evening at the Cobourg Community Centre. The Lakers improved to 6-0 to sit atop the MSL standings led by Kyle Buchanan’s five goals and two assists. The Lakers were without many regulars. Even with several call-ups dressed the team only had 15 runners. Shawn Evans and Curtis Dickson each scored a pair. Jeff Swift, Brad Baker and Steve Bourdon dressed again for the Lakers, while local players Nick Saltern and Brock McGillis saw their first action of the season. Bolstering the team was goalie Matt Vinc who stepped in to play defence while Evan Kirk handled the goaltendin­g duties. Making his season debut was Zach Currier who came straight from the airport to jump in the lineup. Shawn Evans also chipped in five assists while Turner Evans had a goal and six assists. Thomas Hoggarth also scored while McGillis, Brett Coons, Robert Hope, Swift and Currier had assists. Peterborou­gh native Matt Crough had a goal and assist for Cobourg while Colton Armstrong also scored. The Lakers host the Oakville Rock 8 p.m. Thursday at the PMC.
