The famous loonie auctioneer, Doug Pearson, was at work again at the school fundraising dinner on May 11. He worked his magic during the loonie auction selling items such as a one hour massage from Susan Barendregt at Weiss Massage Therapy, a sweet tooth package consisting of four pints of raspberries supplied by Ben Irwin, Kawartha Dairy ice cream and maple syrup from Matt and Jess Fairfield and two jars of fam from Flynn’s gas and variety, fish and chips dinner from Jeff Purvey’s and Just for the Halibut plus a Peterborough Pete’s voucher. The stars of the show were butter tarts supplied by Madeline Pearson and Gloria Windover plus a case of red and white wine from Creek Side Winery which brought in $400 for the school children. And, for a dinner at the Mandarin and Blue Jays tickets $311 was raised.

This all took place after a dinner catered by BE Catering consisting of spaghetti, rolls and salad and bars. There was also a silent auction with items such as an oil change from Trent Valley Honda, a $100 gift certificate to Frederick’s supplied by Lynn Woodcroft, a Mary Kay basket from Pam Hill accompanied by a $50 gift certificate from Pine Tree Trading post, a necklace from Hi-Ho Silver and a scarf from Style Boutique.

The $5,500 raised will help offset costs of busing children to events and fieldtrips, to enhance classroom experiences and to purchase extra resources not covered by the school budget. If you weren’t able to make it this year, watch for it next. Great fun and the community is there!

The market is run by volunteers. The money raised is donated to the Buckhorn Community Centre and to the hot lunch program at the Buckhorn Public School. It is worth a visit!
